More SW Top End Sightings

Hi All,

Was lucky enough to find myself back up in the SW Top End over the last couple of weeks, mostly in the Buntine Highway/Vic River/Timber Creek area. There were a few sightings of note, including:

Several Ground Cuckoo-Shrikes, Square-tailed Kite, Hooded Robin, Australian Pratincole and Red-kneed Dotterel, on or near the Buntine Highway between the Victoria Highway and about Delamere Station. Also saw a couple of Northern Nailtail Wallabies and several Antilopine Wallaroos along here.

Zebra Finches at the Buntine Highway/Victoria Highway intersection – not a rare bird, but not one I’ve recorded often this far north.

White-quilled Rock-Pigeon and Short-eared Rock-Wallabies on the escarpment walk at Victoria River Crossing, plus Lilac-crowned Fairywrens at the crossing itself.

Pictorella Mannikins, Spinifex Pigeons and Black-chinned (Golden-backed) Honeyeaters at the creek crossing 4.5km along the Buchanan Hwy from the Victoria Highway, along with a range of other more common birds coming to drink in the afternoon.

There were as many Black-breasted Buzzards around as I’ve ever seen, with several seen most days. Interestingly no Gouldians this time after there were plenty only a month or so ago, although I didn’t spend as much time looking as I did when I was up here in May/June.

Any questions, please let me know.

Regards and good birding!
