Hello all,
has anyone counted the number of bird species endemic to Australia that breed, or are known to have bred at some time, on the mainland?
I intend to compare the threats to the endemic mainland breeder Grey Falcon with the threats faced by other endemic mainland breeders, and will be very grateful for the information. The taxonomy followed plays a role of course, but all is good as long as it is known.
Many years ago I asked the late Glenn Holmes how many bird species he had seen in Australia. His reply surprised me at the time, but I since adopted Glen’s approach. He replied that he had seen all but 2 or 3 (if I remember correctly) mainland breeders. Glenn is surely sadly missed.
Cheers,
Jonny
