flickr for photos

I was wondering if folks here could comment about whether they use flickr to host their photos and if so the pros and cons of this specific site. I shoot all video so my screen grabs are only mediocre at best but they do provide biological information on species that I think might be valuable. Thanks for your imput! Don Kimball

Hi Don, Just a personal opinion here. I really dislike the Flickr user interface – others may well disagree with me. I suspect that the reason I dislike Flickr is because it is more of a social media site than a photo gallery site – more for sharing photos than for displaying them. I use SmugMug for displaying my photos (and Facebook for sharing them in a more “social media” manner). Not that I’m trying to promote my SmugMug gallery here, but you can take a look at http://paul.angrybluecat.com to see what can be done with SmugMug. Also, people like Geoff Jones (http://barraimaging.com.au), Greg Oakley (http://www.gregoakleywildpix.com) and Dave Stowe (http://www.davidstowe.com.au) use SmugMug – looking at these sites (beyond just the amazing photographs) will give you a sense of the variability and customisation available through SmugMug. Note: SmugMug is quite capable of managing and displaying videos too. All the best, Paul Dodd Docklands, Victoria —–Original Message—– Donald G.
