Hi Folks, Due to very dry weather this year and record low humidity for this time of year – 37%, usually in the 80-90% by now Buff-breastedParadise-Kingfisher are delaying nest building activity. There are no signs of any digging in the termite mounds in the Lodge grounds, previous years they have dug nests and are laying by now. Our neighbours reported signs of diggings in one mound on their property. One of their normal termite moundnestsiteshas been destroyed by an Echidna but as they have over 40 others to choose from this should not be a problem. Last year there were 7 pairs and it looks like there are at least that number again this year. Meanwhile the kingfishers are hanging around to be photographed and waiting for the rain which shows no sign of arriving at the moment. Cheers, Keith & Lindsay.
