Took myself along to the last day of the first cricket test at the Gabba yesterday.Hopeful of seeing some wicket-falling action, but wasn’t to be . In fact, I saw more birds than wickets which normally I’d be happy with, but not yesterday. The most common airborne objects were gashawks, regularly heading for a spot somewhere close to the east. Also seen were Welcome Swallow. Tree Martin, Australian White Ibis, Magpie Lark, Rainbow Lorikeet, Blue-faced Honeyeater, Torresian Crow and Rock Dove. What an unimpressive list, matched the cricket. I now have to find an exorcist to remove the Barmy Army’s chant repertoire from what’s left of my brain.

While I couldn’t possibly comment on the cricket itself (for fear of incurring the wrath of the entire mailing list), I managed to get my oldest girl to a) watch the cricket and understand a few of the simplest rules and b) ID a few of the birds that flew in front of the camera. Cheers,
