Birdpedia – Australia – Weekly Digest

The following is a digest of Sightings Reported on Birdpedia for the period Monday, April 18, 2016 to Sunday, April 24, 2016:

Area: SA

Location: Corner Westminster St & first Ave, St Peters

Australian Hobby (Falco longipennis) (1) While walking home, a block from very busy Payneham Road in the rush hour, a bird carrying another in its claws flew close to the ground and dropped its victim on the footpath. The victim was a very young fluffy wattlebird without enough markings to show whether it was a little wattlebird or a red wattlebird. It had a puncture wound in the side of its head. I rolled it over but it was almost dead. Looking up, there was a hobby on the powerlines 5 metres above me, looking intently at me. I walked on while the hobby continued looking at me. Later in the evening the victim had vanished, presumably as dinner.
