Binoculars

Hi all. Does anyone know where in Australia I can purchase Barr & Stroud? Thanks. Brian ===============================

    Hi Fiona,

I would recommend a pair of 8 X 40s for a 9 year old. The wider field of
view makes locating birds easier, and they are easier to hold steady. Close
focus is another point to consider, especially when chasing LBJs in the
bush. The 40 mm objective also gathers 56% more light than the 32 mm, and
the lower magnification also helps give a brighter image, again good when
    under tree cover.

    Regards
    Roger.

Duncan, how close do your current binoculars focus? I’m under the impression that it’s not uncommon for 10×50 binoculars to have quite a long minimum focus distance, perhaps because they’re less commonly used by birders.

Hi Chris I generally use 10 x 50s but occasionally clients turn up with 30×50. I will suggest these people try a range. Thank you for your comprehensive answer. Kind regards
