Hi all,
For those not on Facebook, a TUFTED DUCK was found this afternoon at the Western Treatment Plant. It continued to show well at the T-Section in Pond 2.
A reminder that access is not allowed tomorrow given that there's a fire ban across Melbourne, so those wanting to twitch it should aim for the weekend.
Good luck to all!

Here's a photo I took, cropped and uncropped. It's the dark bird with white wings right in the middle. At about 150-200m distance, I had no trouble viewing it with just binoculars, and the tuft is visible in the photos from my little Panasonic TZ80.Peter ShuteOn Thu, 3 Jan 2019 at 21:25, Peter Shute <pshute@nuw.org.au> wrote:
The attached map shows where the bird was this afternoon, about 4:30pm. When we arrived, the bird was in the pond where I've marked an A, and we were viewing from the base of the arrow on the south side of the pond. Everyone had parked along the east side of that pond. After a while it flew over the embankment into the next pond to the north. I had to leave, but I'm guessing it was approximately where I've marked a B. People were viewing it from the base of the red arrow on the east side of that pond.As James mentioned, no access on Friday because of the Total Fire Ban. I think there's some rain forecast for Saturday, so it's worth remembering that the "Dry weather road only" signs on some of the roads between the ponds in this area really mean it, even with a 4WD.Peter ShuteOn Thu, 3 Jan 2019 at 20:51, Peter Shute <pshute@nuw.org.au> wrote:
This is a link to what I think is the main Facebook post where it's being discussed, in the Australian Twitchers group:https://www.facebook.com/groups/718576241555767?view=permalink&id=1999467923466586Peter ShuteOn Thu, 3 Jan 2019 at 8:47 pm, James Mustafa <jamesmustafamusic@gmail.com> wrote:
