a bird? — SEQ, 500m asl

Thanks to you all who wrote back about this. The consensus appears to be 1/ Powerful Owl, or 2/ Barking Owl, or perhaps 3/ fox. This was the order of likelihood I’d reached too — until I was reading a book of David Hollands, where he recounted Powerful Owls first eating the possum-head. Floored, I then searched Debus & so on, looking for the place/s where I’d read of Powerful Owls discarding the head… but sadly I couldn’t find the reference/s. I’ve recorded Barking Owl (heard) once in 16 years where we are. Samford Valley, further south, is said to be “Home of the Powerful Owl”, though I’ve never heard them up where we are. The foxes, well, I’ve seen them roadside up to about 350m now. But not where we are, yet. Thanks, all.
