Hi,
For those who haven’t seen it already, there’s an article about Night Parrots by Steve Murphy on Bird-O . Could this year be the year when this species gets pinned down? http://bird-o.com/2011/01/01/night-parrots-the-most-enigmatic-of-birds/
Also, we’ve posted a guide to several dragonfly sites near Melbourne that can be done in a day. Now is the peak season and about two-thirds of the state’s species can be seen with reasonable ease. There are notes about what’s common and what’s not, how to identify things and access to even more location and identification information for dragonflies throughout Australia. http://bird-o.com/2011/01/03/dragonflies-a-victorian-adventure/
Happy new year,
Simon.

Hi all,
An interesting article on the Night Parrot. I’m interested as to what constitutes a confirmed record, as in the comment “The last confirmed living Night Parrot was observed at Nichol Spring, WA in 1912”? There is a BARC-accepted record from the Pilbarra in 2005 (see http://www.tonypalliser.com/barc/summaries/SUMM506.htm) – I would’ve thought that was pretty close to a confirmed record?
Cheers, John
