Hello All, Congratulations are in order in once again for John Weigel. He’s phoned in from Saibai Island (Torres Strait) today confirming Collared Imperial and his 747th bird for the year breaking the old record of 746 (that was also JW’s record). Rather unbelievable considering there’s still over a month to go and trips to CI, CC and Macquarie still to add to the total. Anyone willing to put in the effort and has the passion John does deserves to own the record in my opinion. So good on you Mate, and congrats! Tim Faulkner Sent from my iPhone

Of course congrats to John are in order, but having surpassed the 2012 total, this is where the fun begins. He has just in the past 24 hours added another species (an Australian first) in pretty ‘exceptional circumstances’, but I’ll let Tim or John elaborate on that one. Looking forward to seeing his 2014 effort on the big screen one day. We might have to get Redford on the line for that one 😉 Mick From: Iain Campbell < private.iain@gmail.com> To: Tim Faulkner < timmo982@hotmail.com> Cc: “birding-aus@birding-aus.org” < birding-aus@birding-aus.org>; John Weigel < jweigel@reptilepark.com.au>; “birding-aus@lists.vicnet.net.au” < birding-aus@lists.vicnet.net.au> Sent: Tuesday, 18 November 2014, 9:53 Subject: Re: [Birding-Aus] New Aussie record set today This is an amazing number. Shirley….you are so right!!! I cannot go anywhere at all, without “looking over people’s shoulders” at the smallest flutter, let alone without planning where to go and what to see, birding wise. Once a birdwatcher, there is no such thing as a non-birding holiday – or ANY day for that matter, is there? Shirley Cook —– Original Message —– < birding-aus@lists.vicnet.net.au>; < birding-aus@birding-aus.org> Cc: “John Weigel” < jweigel@reptilepark.com.au> Sent: Sunday, November 16, 2014 7:52 PM

Thanks Tim and Kevin. And congratulations to you two blokes on the Dowitcher. Don’t worry Kevin, come 1 January I will have NO time and NO money left for well into the foreseeable future. But regardless, I’ve totally enjoyed every adventurous and too-often eventful (read expensive) minute of the year so far, and I it feels as though I’ve squeezed about 5 years of living into these past 10 months. Lucky thing there were so many mainland vagrants this year, as my Indian Ocean island trips to date have been abysmal, and after 23 pelagic trips, I still managed to miss a few relatively common birds (but have not given up!). Red-capped FP is abundant here on Saibai, but I cannot work out where ‘everyone’ sees Coconut/Rainbow Lorikeets on Saibai/Boigu, this is my third visit in three years, and I haven’t seen a green feather. Can’t get onto Dauan Island, but hit Boigu on Wednesday. I know, watch the big fig tree at the church! Got it.
Rather amazing! I wish I had his time & money! I haven’t seen that many species in my entire life! Congratulations John!-Kevin Bartram
