Trip report: East Kimberley

Hi all, I have recently returned from a trip to the east Kimberley. The highlight was a half day boat trip from Wyndham Port with Northbound Charters. Although the company primarily does fishing trips Andy is a great guide and is very knowledgeable about the area, the birds and other wildlife we came across as well as the secret local swimming spots! Highlights included *great-billed heron, chestnut rail, black butcherbird *and* little bronze cuckoo*. Not to mention all the mangrove species we could wish for and a mudflat full of waders that someone with a scope (or better camera) might have been able to do more with. In total 56 species in half a day! I’d recommend looking up the Northbound Charters website if you are heading up that way. Low tide (or low-ish) is the way to go for the rail and waders. NB. I am in no way connected with Northbound Charters and do not gain anything on a personal level by promoting them. Cheers, Catherine Radjah Shelduck, Great-billed Heron, Black-necked Stork (Jabiru), White-faced Heron, Little Egret, Great Egret, Nankeen night heron, Striated Heron, White Ibis, Royal Spoonbill, Black Kite, Whistling Kite, Brahminy Kite, Chestnut Rail, Godwit sp., Eastern Curlew, Whimbrel, Common Greenshank, Marsh Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper, Terek Sandpiper, Red-capped Plover, Pacific Golden Plover, Black fronted Dotterel, Great Sand Plover, Lesser Sand Plover, Curlew Sandpiper, Gull-billed Tern, Silver Gull, Bar Shouldered Dove, Little Bronze Cuckoo, Azure Kingfisher, Sacred Kingfisher, Rainbow Bee-eater, Dollarbird, Mangrove Gerygone, Little Friarbird, Silver crowned Friarbird, Singing Honeyeater, Grey-fronted Honeyeater, Rufous-throated Honeyeater, Brown Honeyeater, Banded Honeyeater, Red-headed Honeyeater, Lemon-bellied Flycatcher, Mangrove Robin, Varied Sitella, Mangrove Golden Whistler, White-Breasted Whistler, Mangrove Grey Fantail, Black-faced, Cuckoo-Shrike, White-breasted Woodswallow, Black Butcherbird, Great Bowerbird, Double barred Finch, Yellow White-eye
