Masked Owl in Tasmania

Re Masked Owls in Tasmania On the Tasman Peninsula at Port Arthur there is a pair of Masked Owl breeding regularly in the left hand Eucalyptus globulus (Tasmanian blue gum) if you stand outside at the Commandant’s cottage facing north. At dusk the pair regularly leave the tree which has a large hollow about half way up on the inland side of the tree. This is the easiest place to see the Masked Owl at present however birders should be aware that using a flash may inhibit the birds’ ability to see and hunt and could cause blindness. I understand that in the UK using a flash on night birds is illegal.
