Batty

Unrelated subject – although flying, a line of bats – in places 40-50 bat-wide, heading nor/nor-east over the water at Runaway Bay (Qld), for at least 10 minutes. I’ve not seen this before on the Gold Coast. Perhaps the fireworks are going off early in Surfers Paradise! As girls (OMG 70 years ago!) in suburban Brisbane my sister and I would watch the nightly swarms of hundreds of “flying foxes” heading to feeding grounds. You had to cover your head, of course, because if one landed on it, you couldn’t get it off and you had to have all your hair cut off! True!
