The developer of a links golf course on the Bass Strait island yesterday confirmed it had destroyed the sand dune burrows of up to 10,000 short-tailed shearwaters, also known as Tasmanian mutton-birds. Last night, federal Environment Minister Greg Hunt was taking urgent advice on the matter. ‘‘This is the first the minister has heard of this issue — he is making immediate inquiries for more information,’’ his spokeswoman told The Australian.
