WTP (Vic) Waders etc

Hi all, Steve Davidson has put a report of his visit to the WTP yesterday (21/8) on BirdLine so I thought I would add a bit more. For those who have emailed B-A about the Northern Shoveler, I couldn’t find it anywhere yesterday. In fact there were very few ducks at the plant apart from Pink-ears down on the Spit and on Borrie, Coot everywhere and teal scattered here and there. The waders are coming back as Steve said but the time to see them is at low tide because all the high tide roost ponds, apart from the main Western Lagoon pond, are full of water with no “edge” exposed for the waders. This includes the Conservation Ponds and Barrow Pit. I did see a Marsh Sandpiper on the Summer Pond No. 1 beside Austin Rd. Greenshanks in the remains of breeding colour were on Summer Pond 2 in the “T” section and also the main Western Lagoon. Ravens are nesting in a couple of places and I saw a pair of Black Kite, one carrying a large stick, coming in and out of the trees on Paradise Rd.
