Hi Folks, On the 18th April the resident naturalist on board “Ocean Spirit” moored at Michaelmas Cay said “I was amazed to see a fruit-dove flying towards our boat moored at the cay”. He knew immediately that it was not a regular and sent a crewman to fetch the on-board photographer to get a photo as it had landed on the rigging. He sent us the photo and we confirmed it was a juvenile male Superb Fruit-Dove, what it was doing heading out to sea away from its usual rainforest habitat who knows? Michaelmas Cay is about 18Km off shore from Cairns. (It was not ship assisted!). We have put the photo of this bird on our blog if anyone wants to see it. http://kingfisherparkbirdwatchers.blogspot.com/
Cheers, Keith & Lindsay.
