Butcherbirds attacking gliders

Hi all

Today at Skinners Lagoon in Brisbane at about noon, I heard 3 Grey butcherbirds making their alarm call. Expecting to find a carpet snake, I went over to the commotion and found one bird hammering at fallen bark accumulated in a fork midway up a eucalypt. It even attacked under the bark. After more harassment, a Squirrel glider fled from out of the bark and ran up the trunk. It was pursued and attacked, doing its best to fight back. From the top of the tree, it escaped by gliding to an ironbark where it managed to evade the birds’ attention.

Quite a few plumed whistling ducks on the lagoon itself.

Happy Easter birding!

Andrew
