Bird ‘massacre’ in Victoria

This is a link to the speech made last night by Sue Pennicuik (Greens), MLC, in the upper house of State Parliament. It outlines an extraordinary, secret massacre of ducks and other waterbirds that took place at Box Flat nature conservation reserve, near Boort in NW Victoria. Part of this wetland is on private property, part on Crown land.

Reliable witnesses reported approximately 150 shooters last Saturday killed around 2000 birds. These included Pink-eared Ducks, Blue-billed Ducks, coots, avocets, at least 50 swans and approximately 200 Freckled Ducks.

Please take the time to read about this monstrous event and consider writing to Peter Walsh, Minister for Agriculture et al, your local MP, and Dr Napthine, the Premier. This event must be properly investigated and wetlands containing rare and threatened species must be closed to shooting immediately.
