Re- Another mystery sound from west NSW

Not familiar with the birds in that area but try Crested Pigeon David

Thanks to all that answered my request for the mystery parrot call, it turned out to be a Bourke’s and not a Mulga…..which I should have known:(

The next one is probably just as obvious but I can’t get the call of Common Eider from my mind so it’s really irritating. All I can think of is Spinifex Pigeon but though I’ve seen them haven’t heard them call yet.

I’ve posted it on my own site at www.aviceda.org/audio and on the Mystery sound forum on Xeno-Canto http://www.xeno-canto.org/121537

Earlier today one of the moderators of X-C asked me why there seemed so little interest in the site and bird-audio in general in Australia, so I would appreciate if we could show some participitation….upload those calls and get into the forums and show him otherwise!

I’m hearing it for most of the notes, but mostly when two are calling at once. No point arguing that it’s Spinifex Pigeon though, if they normally aren’t found anywhere near there.

I found this Crested Pigeon recording which sounds more like what I’m hearing: http://www.xeno-canto.org/87426. “Trill” is probably the wrong word.

There are no Spinifex Pigeon calls at all on Xeno Canto.

Sounds fine for Crested Pigeon to me, I can’t detect much ‘trilling’ except on one occasion, but it sounds to me more like there’s a couple of birds calling and the single notes overlapped a little. Cheers,John > From: pshute@nuw.org.au

I thought of Crested Pigeon too, but this call has a trill. I listened to all the pigeons on the BOCA CD, and only Spinifex Pigeon has the same trill. I’ve no idea if it could be something other than a pigeon.
