Hoary-headed Grebe introduced to Australia

G’day all

I just read the Wikipedia entry for HHGrebe.

Hoary-headed Grebe

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Hoary-headed Grebe (Poliocephalus poliocephalus) is a member of the grebe family introduced in 1975 to Australia and to New Zealand, where it is scarce.

So my question is “From where was it introduced?”

Funny how some people prefer a sentence to sound better rather than be accurate!

Hi Steve, the edit history shows that until the 9th of November the article read; “The ‘Hoary-headed Grebe (”Poliocephalus poliocephalus”) is a member of the grebe family found in Australia and, since 1975, New Zealand, where it is scarce.” However on the 9th of November an anonymous editor changed the sentence to what you’ve posted because; “It was merely a restructuring of a sentence to sound better.” I am now reverting the page to before that edit.

first record for NZ was 1975 but it is a self-introduced species, very different to a (human-)introduced species! They established tentatively but petered out and are now scarce I believe.

As far as I know it is a Australian endemic introduced to NZ in 1975!
