Hi all,
Could anyone please recommend a 4WD hire company in Cairns that: – is reputable – allows their vehicles to be taken up Cape York – doesn’t charge the world or has ridiculous contract clauses I’ve heard of some horror stories so any recommendations gladly received! Thanks in advance, cheers

What time of year are you planning to drive up there Peter?
If you go in the dry season and don’t try to ford the Jardine River (or perhaps traverse the old telegraph road – you wouldn’t want to cross Gunshot Creek) then river crossings aren’t such an issue. I drove a Subaru into the Iron Range, out to Captain Billy Landing, to Vrilya Point and Cape York …
Regards, Laurie.

A few years ago we hired a Britz Maui camper style Troop Carrier to drive to Iron Range in NE Qld. They were located near the turnoff to Airport Road to the Cairns Airport. They had no worries about us driving it to Iron Range and the vehicle was good. I think from memory it was just over $2000 to hire for about ten days.

Hi Peter,
Check out Sargent – we have had a number of guests using them and they seem to be the best option. www.*sargent*.com.au * *Cheers,

Hi Peter,
We used Sargent, rate $175/day for a Toyota Land (Cruiser Wagon 100). No bad experience.
Cheers,
Nikolas
