This evening I saw an Eastern Grass Owl near my home at Ninderry on the Sunshine Coast. This is the same site where I first found the species 10 months ago, and while I did not get the chance to check over winter, it is nice that they are still in the area. The bird this evening was different to the last Grass Owl I saw here in April. There remains considerable uncertainty about the movements of this species – the extent to which they are nomadic. In an indicaiton that good numbers of rodents are still around, in the late afternoon today at this site I saw Grey Goshawk, Brown Goshawk and Australian Hobby, among other raptors.
