Thanks to all who replied. Here is a shot of the first bird I saw, higher in the tree and cropped a lot more. I had this one pinned as a sparrowhawk with the obviously long middle toe, smallish looking head, though it does have a rounded tail looking tail which is a feature of either a worn sparrowhawk or a goshawk tail if I’m not mistaken. Assume all the Goshawk ID features apply equally to the smaller northern race of the brown goshawk?
