The Ethnoornithology Research & Study Group are proposing to put together a session or symposium for the next Pan African Ornithology Conference (PAOC13).
There were several ethnoornithogical sessions at the last PAOC in South Africa in 2008 and I look forward to learning as much and having as much fun…and more…in Arusha, Tanzania next year.
Following is infornation about the Call for Symposia and the venue change from Jos in Nigeria to Arusha in Tanzania.

Venue for PAOC 13 changed from Nigeria to Tanzania

*The 13th Pan-African Ornithological Congress has been changed from Nigeria to Tanzania owing to security and costs concerns.*
*PAOC 13 will be held in Arusha from the 14th to 21st October 2012.*

The Pan-African Ornithological Congress (PAOC) takes place every 4 years and its aims and purpose are to:
(a) Further the study of African birds
(b) Promote the preservation of African birds as an integral part of the African heritage
(c) Foster the appreciation of birds and discussion of African birds in relation to man, and
(d) Disseminate information on African birds through appropriate international meetings (Congresses) and publications (Proceedings of the Congresses).
The previous congress took place on 7-12 September 2008 in Rawsonville, South Africa (see details including proceedings at http://paoc12.adu.org.za/ )
PAOC 13 – Call for Symposia

The PAOCC invites proposals for symposia to the PAOC 13.
Each Symposium is 1hr and 50 min normally, a short introduction, 5 speakers and then a short general discussion.
*Deadline: for full consideration please submit proposals by Nov 3 2011.*(Email: downs@ukzn.ac.za)
Proposals should include (1) a descriptive title, (2) one or two paragraphs explaining the purpose of the symposium and its relevance to African Ornithology, (3) a list of presentations including proposed speakers, their institutions or affiliations, and their presentation titles, and (4) an indication of whether the speakers have been invited and whether they have agreed to participate.
All participants need to submit abstracts (English/French) by 1 March 2012
