Hi all Several years ago I suggested to Tourism NT that they create a data base of people not working in tourism, but who had expertise of interest to visitors. For example, I knew a lady in her eighties who was an authority on native orchids and several Indigenous people who were willing to spend an hour or two talking to visitors. And there were people who worked occasionally as guides, for example several of the scientists I knew.
I also suggested to Tourism NT that they examine the feasibility of covering the public liability insurance of such people, perhaps by forming an organisation they could join. As vice-chair of Wildlife Tourism Australia, I¹m interested in raising this again. Are any Birding Aussers interested in this topic? If so, I¹d love to hear from you.
