Hi all,
I have just spoken to CLC and applied for an entry permit to the Mt Winter area and wanted to share some info. My contact at CLC has advised that the key traditional owner is being consulted next week on-site. All the applications received so far from birders are being considered together. Other traditional owners for the Meerenie Loop – Mt Winter section will also be consulted over the next few days to ascertain their wishes.
The CLC have stressed to me that decision regarding approval or refusal of these permits will not be available before Friday 20th August. They also said that it should not be assumed a permit will be granted.
This implies to me that if birders enter the area prior to the consultation with traditional owners and without an entry permit, this will jeopardise the situation for everyone.
Good birding to all,

Local guiding and a higher chance of a tick and they could probably charge $500/head without anyone blinking.

Hi birders,
Strikes me that this could be a wonderful opportunity for traditional owners, some of whom are excellent trackers, to guide birders to selected spots and gain some revenue and good will at the same time. A couple of switched on co-ordinators could achieve this scenario. Even at other times, just to see spectacular country….in preselected, to them acceptable places, away from their sacred places and homes. In Southern and Eastern Africa, wonderful guides take birders and other naturalists to visit “their patch” – and boy, they see and find things faster than most of us ever would.
Wouldn’t that be something positive…..or, is that “pie in the sky”…??? Peter Madvig PS. Must have hit send button before, prematurely…
