Whistle Ducks and Crested Pigeons

Brooms Head, North Coast NSW, seems to have had an explosion of Plumed Whistle Ducks young. A number of families have been seen. We were favoured with a family with about eight young in our yard last night.

Three Crested Pigeons had their heads touching and bobbing up and down while they turned in a . . . → Read More: Whistle Ducks and Crested Pigeons

Night parrot Stories

Yes, a beautiful piece of filming. Impressionistic & lovely, yet comprehensive too. Guess it’ll cycle the sbs channels for a little while, though I’d like to own a copy.

Merry Christmas to all. Judith SEQ 500m

Merry Christmas

To all Birding Aussers, I wish you a happy Christmas and a great New Year. To the birds of the Top End I wish a year that sees a reduction in gamba grass and fire. It’s a forlorn hope given the amount of gamba that I already see springing up around the area. Still, now . . . → Read More: Merry Christmas

WTNT

Dear All Happy Christmas Eve!

It is 37 degrees at Macmasters Beach NSW with a gentle hot breeze from the WNW. The cirrus clouds are just starting to arrive with heavier cloud in the west (I face east) ahead of a forecast change this afternoon or evening. At noon spotted 4-12 WTNT flying very high, . . . → Read More: WTNT

re Cuckoos

The Koels and the CBC’s have been around this inner-west Sydney locale in the usual numbers. I’ve recently seen fledged Australian Raven and Pied Currawongs begging. I’ve never seen a CBC chick being fed. The Koelsters I’ve seen in this locale have been raised by the Redwattle Birds. The local Redwattle birds have been very . . . → Read More: re Cuckoos

Cuckoos

I know why Judith. All the Koels are here at Yamba NSW but no Channel-billed cuckoos. Geoff

cuckoos

More of the Channel-Bills than ever before here this season. But still few small cuckoos and, like last year, remarkably few Koels compared to the constant presences in earlier years.
