Freckled Duck

We visited Jerrabomberra Wetlands in Fyshwick ACT this morning and were surprised to see a Freckled Duck happily foraging and preening. We are from the Blue Mountains and I wondered if this is a common sight there? Julie Neumann

The trips look great.

However the prices are extraordinary! Highest I’ve ever seen – especially as they are exclusive of accommodation and meals. (They make a Birding Pal’s eyes water.)

But, whatever the market will bear.

Hello Bill,

More importantly, what were they doing.

On or near the ground, possibly feeding on emerging termites.

Woodswallow season

Yesterday I was at Ladys Pass (note lack of apostrophe) north of Heathcote in Victoria. I’d noticed some high flying Woodswallows earlier in the day, but on the way home I passed a flock of about 25 on or near the ground. All the ones I got a decent look at were White-browed, but I . . . → Read More: Woodswallow season

I have a bad photo of a Sri Lankan cuckoo that I took recently, but couldn’t identify the species.

Would anyone like to have a look at it and let me know the ID?

Thanks

Guardian Australian bird of the year 2017

I read the cartoons about it and I still voted. When you vote, there is an option to see the ranking.

The notes about the bird choices, perpetuate what is said to be a myth that the Grey Butcherbird has “a rather gruesome habit of impaling its prey in the fork of a branch . . . → Read More: Guardian Australian bird of the year 2017
