Hi birders,

There are spots available on the Birds Australia pelagic out of Portland this coming Sunday, 2nd October. Over the years spring pelagics have yielded some interesting birds and with the wild weather we’ve had over the last few days, who knows what we may see on Sunday. The weather forecast for Sunday is good, and the trip will proceed.

Hi all, We are two Swedish birders that will visit Australia for two weeks in late Nov-early Dec. We plan to go to Tasmania, and the areas around Melbourne, Brisbane and Cairns. We would like to get in contact with persons in or around these places to get information regarding birds and localities. Since we both have been to Australia earlier our hitlists have shortened, at least a little…..

Earthcare St Kilda still needs 15 more people to join the penguin guide team for season 2011-12. A commitment of once a fortnight is required but this can possibly be negotiated. This year, visitors will be admitted via a gate, so that overcrowding on the breakwater won’t recur. Guides talk about the penguins’ habits and life cycle with a wide range of people, including overseas visitors. Training takes place this Sunday afternoon 2/10 in St Kilda. Please consider volunteering; Melbourne’s Little Penguins are a great natural asset but are in danger from their own popularity!
